Reeks a bit of desperation on Treliving’s part, and he signed him to a 3 year deal, which expires right when Tre’s deal expires. Tre is strategic to the end... even in self preservation. He just bet his job on Sutter’s success. I think he’s a fantastic GM, but clearly he knows this is the final push with this group to get something big done in the playoffs before it gets blown up. Rumour is Sutter is harder than a guy like Hartley ever was, so this will be a short window to make a splash before the players tune out the hardass coach.
On the bright side, someone this tough should get instant results in the form of consistency of effort... on the downside, it might be super boring dump and chase hockey. He’s a good coach, but a piss poor GM who crippled the team by flipping Phaneuf for pennies, etc.
Stakes are very high now. If Sutter can’t turn things around this year and next, then the team gets blown up and our legitimately good GM gets fired, which is always scary.
I'm wondering if this was even a Tre signing and instead was done above his head.
We had it here with the owner bringing in Torts when Gillis didn't want to, and then it blew up in their face, and then the entire house was cleared out lol.
Even riskier for Tre when you consider Sutter has been GM there in the past.
