Oh no

That's what I was thinking. Wtf? And rumor is this decision was made 2 weeks ago and he's been in quarantine. Ward was a dead man walking for awhile.

Reeks a bit of desperation on Treliving’s part, and he signed him to a 3 year deal, which expires right when Tre’s deal expires. Tre is strategic to the end... even in self preservation. He just bet his job on Sutter’s success. I think he’s a fantastic GM, but clearly he knows this is the final push with this group to get something big done in the playoffs before it gets blown up. Rumour is Sutter is harder than a guy like Hartley ever was, so this will be a short window to make a splash before the players tune out the hardass coach.

On the bright side, someone this tough should get instant results in the form of consistency of effort... on the downside, it might be super boring dump and chase hockey. He’s a good coach, but a piss poor GM who crippled the team by flipping Phaneuf for pennies, etc.

Stakes are very high now. If Sutter can’t turn things around this year and next, then the team gets blown up and our legitimately good GM gets fired, which is always scary.

I'm wondering if this was even a Tre signing and instead was done above his head.

We had it here with the owner bringing in Torts when Gillis didn't want to, and then it blew up in their face, and then the entire house was cleared out lol.

Even riskier for Tre when you consider Sutter has been GM there in the past.

It’s possible.. as Sutter is a familiar face in Calgary and to ownership, and as soon as he left he won two cups. But Treliving ha made major demands about making moves autonomously from owndershio when he first came on. One major trade he had planned fell through when owner Edwards couldn’t be reached by phone because he was flying, and Treliving was livid and said he would only stick around if he could make his own moves without permissions. But that being said, billionaires are assholes, so it wouldn’t surprise me. But to counter that point again... supposedly Treliving had asked about Sutter right after Peters left last year, so he’s been on the radar.

I don’t like going back to old coaches. That’s a Hebs thing to do, feels gross. Like drunk dialing your ex at last call

Used to feel this way but with our current GM and last two coaches, I'd kill to have Gillis & AV back.

Darryl Sutter, who calls this “unfinished business,” is going through protocol and will coach practice Tuesday. Ryan Huska runs the bench this weekend

I might have just misread that
