Hoping next season isnt a let down (like the Avs of this year). I dont imagine Hartley will let that happen though. I think they need to try and get rid of Hiller if possible, I think he's the more moveable contract and it would be nice to have Ramo/Ortio starting up here next year. The only issue with that is that if Ortio/Ramo struggle then we could be in for a long year, Hiller certainly provided some stability.
Other than that I think it's apparent that we need some more size and speed in our lineup to compete with teams like Anaheim. I suppose it's not something you can just magically attain, but I think players like Raymond, Jones and Bollig all need to go. They didnt provide much in this series in terms of physicality or size to counter act the Ducks. With the exception of Bollig's goals (which I think are more of an outlier than what we should expect), these guys didnt produce much in terms of chances, hits or shots on goal. Obviously not saying it needs to be changed for next season but "big picture" I dont think these players have a spot here. With how small the "top" line is with Johnny and Hudes we need some sizeable depth players. I'm also not so certain how Backlund will fit in with Bennet/Monahan playing on the top 2.
Colborne is a player that frustrates me aswell, he's got a big frame but at times just seems lost out there. He's not sure if he's a scorer or a grinder, and lots of times just seems to be in bad spots. I didnt want to put him on the list above because he's young and still has a chance to develop however if he doesnt take a big step this year I dont know if he fits in at all.
Overall I'm excited for the future, I think this team has a lot of good, young players who look like they can fill a large number of roles. Bouma, Ferland, Shore, Bennet, Jooris, Granlund all look like they will be regulars next year and having young fast talent definitely is something that can produce results. Getting Gio back for an entire season will be massive aswell, and hopefully they can fit Wotherspoon into the bottom pair to get some meaningful minutes this year. Engelland hopefully will continue with how he played after Gio went out, because before that I thought he was absolutely horrendous. Wideman (Widedog) was absolutely awesome this season defensively and offensively and Schlemko (schlemcat) was a big waiver pick up. The future looks bright for this team, already excited for the 2015-2016 season
