Was hoping for 8.5. Everyone who said under 8 was crazy. 9 is many $ but 8 fucking years, thats the price, im happy.

Under 8 was precedent. Over 8 is the highest salary of any defenseman. I get the doubt but it kinda ignores the rotating demands of contracts. PK won't be highest salary within 2-3 years.

It's the highest cap hit. PK isn't even top 5 for salary though.

For years, since the introduction of the cap, it's the depth players who've profited from the increases in cap. Jagr and a few others earned 9 to 10 a year before that, and most 3rd liners earned 1 or less. Now 4th liners who are solid earn 2, 3rd liners around 4. Meanwhile, star players signed fur 6-7 a year.

Now we're simply seeing this trend rebalance itself, that's all. Other agents are going to use Subban contract as basis to give others higher salaries too.

As for us, in the short term it's expansive, but in the long term, we'll come out ahead, Subban is already one of the best in the world, and i know he's going to improve.

am i the only one here who doesnt like the contract?

listen, were absolutely blessed to have this guy for another 8 years. and thank god he wont be playing vs us for 8 years. i often find myself wanting to marry subban after some games because he turned it on so hard.

unfortunately in our case, this is now a salary cap league. so the amount you pay your players is the most important thing when building a team.

theres just too many question marks with subban for me. his emotions (getting in fights in practice, mouthing off at refs, taking bad penalties and crucial moments in games) is the biggest question mark for me. his attitude in the locker room is also another area that concerns me. many players have stated in the past that they don't like him and are not on good terms with him. the management we have will only help him with that, but the character that bergevin is looking for in players is sometimes nowhere to be found with subban.

also, we know the cap is on an upward swing, but no one really knows for sure how fast or how high it will climb before it dips down again. there could be a sudden change or something that may hurt the growth of the league. signing players based on projections of future growth just seems silly (more so in this case because its quite obvious).

im sorry but paying the guy more than sidney crosby is a fucking joke. his impact to this team and contribution will never trump crosby's in relation to his team.

You won't ever see concession players signing for what Crosby and malkin did again. It's hardly a reference
