Arbitration deal is 1 year no matter what because that's what PK and Habs both opted for. Until the arbitrator awards the number for a 1 year deal though they can continue to negotiate and sign a long term deal. So pretty much PK signs 8 years in the next day or however long the arbitrator takes or he gets a 1 year deal and is an RFA next season and we go through this process again or sign an extension before this point next year.

oh nice. thats good. i was in the mindset that he could only be given up to a 2 year deal from this point onward, and that he would absolutely be a UFA afterwards.

im a lot happier now after reading that. no worries.

except with spitting in the face and insulting the best player on your team by offering a shitty 5.5 million isn't going to get him to sign long term, I hope he refuses to sign a long deal and comes to toronto with stamkos as is discussed....

I'm not a huge hockey fan, but it doesn't take one to realize how retarded it is to offer the Norris trophy winner from 2012-13 5 million a season... How can an organization and fans be so ignorant.... this is a top 3 D player in the league and you're trying to nickle and dime him?

They didn't offer him 5 mill it's just for the arbitration purpose.. It's a bargaining chip.

Don’t let the Canadiens arbitration offer fool you, they don’t expect to get him at anything near 5.25 million dollars, even for one year...
The arbitrator rules somewhere in the middle of the two proposals, so if the Canadiens are going to arbitration and will get a one year reward, they want it somewhere around 7 million. To get a 7 million dollar ruling, you don’t submit a 7 million dollar proposal, you submit something significantly lower, knowing the ruling will come in the middle.

They did the bridge deal before when he wanted to sign for 10 years at 5 million a season and they lost out...

If they lose him as an UFA they will look even worse...

doesn't seem worth the risk to save 1.5 million dollars....

Tbh I agree with a bridge deal. He had to prove himself. And usually that's how the habs work. But right now they should have signed him before the arbitration, that is definitely a mistake. However we don't know the full story, so I onoo
