A fan from reddit men Linden today and asked him about today's trade.

From Linden's view, bonino is a great guy but great guy's don't make good hockey players. They don't think he can skate well enough and doesn't have very good hands. Believe Sutter is better in both categories.

Management doesn't believe Clendening can be an NHLer and at best would be a fringe NHLer.

So it would've been a less skilled skater with some offence, a career AHLer, and a 2nd for a a guy that's a more skilled skater who uses teammates in offensive zone better, and a 3rd.

well bonino skates with knee braces, it explains the "lazy" gameplay
changes, slow skating as if he's a vet about to retire soon etc.
though he quietly puts up points like a ninja so he must be doing sth right lol rarely notice him in games and when i do, it's more like why willie?!? why u put him on!

honestly aside from 10-20 more assists, sutter is better in every way than he is as an individual imo.
Bigger, young leader, faster, gritty, good f/o, can play in key situations, hell of a wrist shot (has like 20g 2 seasons playing 3rd line with plugs)
at this point, if sutter ends up getting 40-50pts its just an added bonus, perfectly fine with 30pts with everything else he brings in.

I'll miss clendenning though :(
he was damn good early AHL career, but last season he didn't look too good... maybe playing for numerous teams in a season took effect
great offensive D but meh skater

I really hope Linden didn't say Bonino doesn't have good hands 'cause he has excellent stick and puck skills. He is one of the slowest players in the league though.

Statistically speaking Sutter doesn't offer anything more than Bonino. He's bigger and faster but plays a soft game and doesn't produce more than Bonino offensively. Sutter is great defensively but Bonino played very well under hard minutes for us this past year.

I don't mind Sutter in a vacuum but there's no way he has more value than Bonino especially when you consider that Bonino is much cheaper with a year left on his deal whereas Sutter is due for a (probable) UFA deal type overpay.

How we gave up a prospect and downgraded a pick on top of that is beyond me. Benning is ridiculous lol.

Sbisa - 3.6
Dorsett - 2.65
Sutter - 4.4
Prust - 2.5

= 13.15M combined for a 4th liner, 4th liner, 3rd liner and a 6/7 D-man.

Their actual combined cap should be about 8M lol.
