Writer from HF reviews the Canucks OHL prospects

http://ohlprospects.blogspot.ca/2015/07/30-teams-in-30-days-vancouver-canucks.html

Here's a TLDR on the 3 main guys:

McCann: Extremely well-rounded two-way player, however he is criticized for playing a very soft game.

Cassels: Shutdown center with play-making ability, a good mix for a middle-6 center at the NHL level. His skating could definitely use improvement.

Subban: Excellent with the puck and offensively. Unfortunately, his defensive game has major holes because of his small size. He'll have a tough time containing bigger forwards at the pro level, however it's not due to lack of effort as he battles hard on the ice.

Some info on our other top prospects from what I've personally seen and read:

Virtanen: Has all the tools, does he have the toolbox? Has the physical and scoring abilities for 1st line NHLer potential but his hockey IQ is often questioned. Could very well end up being a bottom-6 grinder.

Shinkaruk: Has the offensive skills to put up points but the rest of his game is lacking. Needs to do a better job of putting those skills to use and creating scoring opportunities more consistently. Definitely isn't a player that can play in the bottom-6 if he doesn't reach his potential.

Gaunce: Shows the strength, work-ethic and defensive awareness to be at least a 4th liner in the NHL eventually. He's also strong on the puck along the boards and seems to be around the net a lot. Another player that probably needs to work on his skating.

Boeser: Strong overall offensive game with his shot being as his best asset. Hopefully he'll develop into a pure goal-scoring winger, which is something our prospect pool doesn't have.

Jensen completely busting and Kassian being traded makes our winger prospect depth not look as good as I thought. Hopefully Zhukenov or Jasek miraculously pan out.

Also desperately need a high-potential D-man prospect. Guys like Corrado, Clendening and Brisebois will likely be NHLers but none of them have #3 potential let alone top-pairing.

Massive improvement but he's still not a good prospect :P

There are like 10 guys ahead of him that I didn't name in that post.

Fuck man, I was so big on Jensen when he was drafted... thought the Canucks had a steal. But alas, the tools with no toolbox adage rings true here.

Ditto. Our prospect pool is objectively decent (average at worst) but I think of all of our players as future busts

McCann, Cassels, Virtanen, Boeser and Shinkaruk all have the potential to be top-6 players but in my mind they're all 3rd liners except Shinkaruk, who will be an AHLer.

I imagine we'll see something similar to the Jurco contract for Baerstchi.

Hold up seems to be because of a 1 year vs. 2 year thing.

I imagine it gets resolved soon as it's already taken a pretty long time.

I guess 1 good take away is that Sutter is in no way a 2C and almost forces Willie to play Horvat as our 2C.

I guess it could also be bad.

Sutter is a beast on the PK. I donno how your PK unit is, but he will be a boost to most teams.
