He had a good season in Utica. Doubt he has a chance to crack the roster with Prust and Dorsett taking up spots.

he has much higher chance to crack the line up than virtanen at the moment imo
he should be replacing kassian/matthias

nucks twitter had a tweet of him being signed, but took it down shortly

Yeah Grenier has AHL experience so the transition should be much easier for him.

However it's obvious that Benning badly wants Virtanen to stay up. He's been saying it since shortly after he was drafted. He didn't exactly have a great year in junior and didn't do too much in Utica at the end so I highly doubt he's good enough. His game isn't exactly mature like Horvat's was.

By the looks of it he is physically ready, though.

i dont even know about being physically ready either lol
he got rekt 1st day in prospect camp cos he was being cute, by a rand
and sat out rest of day, and the management told him to take another day off just to be safe.
to be fair, virt said he didnt expect the hit, and got hit in the chin area =/
hopefully that experience gets him to wake the fuck up and treat it like he's gonna play against men in NHL soon,
and not expect to be gift wrapped a spot like kassian did

Canucks management hosted their summer season tickets holders' meeting today. A few fans asked some tough questions but because there's no rebuttal, the answers got spun and we didn't really get any new info.

However, then Linden took aside two of the guys that asked a question and talked to them personally. One of them posts on HF, here's his recap:

Quote
So on my way out Linden has a guy call me and another guy to stay behind. We went up on stage, waited for Linden to finish his autographs, and he came up and talked to us about our questions. He liked the questions, wasn't offended at all.

On Kassian: absolutely nobody around the league wanted him. They felt it was time to move on from him, and that three coaches couldn't get through to him here.

On the fired management: The new regime didn't inherit a cup contender, and these guys were partially responsible for that. Apparently they weren't very organized and didn't have much direction.

On Weisbrod: gave him credit for some of the Calgary rebuild, namely for Gaudreau and Monahan. Didn't feel it was fair to single him out for Calgary's draft record.

On Delorme: didn't answer my question about him fully, but stated that it's unfair to put all the blame solely on him. Stated that Eric Crawford had been the head of scouting recently, and thinks that the way the organization was run with the guys they let go hindered our draft performance.

On getting younger: fully willing to move veterans if younger players earn a spot. Feels McCann still has more to learn even at the junior level (cited being a leader, and playing at the WJC).

On possibly moving Higgins: appears nobody wants him. People don't want the contract.

Wish we had more one on one time, especially since I wanted to probe more, but I give him huge props for calling us up there to have a discussion. Definitely impressed with that.

Not really much there outside of him saying "nobody" wanted Kassian and "nobody" wants Higgins. The latter is supported by a report on Team1040 earlier in the summer that suggested the same thing. Pretty surprising... Higgins is a quality 3rd liner with good traditional and advanced stats in that role and his contract is fair if not cheap.

i can see kassian being not wanted, since he's inconsistent af with 3 coaches putting him in the doge house
but higgins for only 2.5m is a bad contract vat??
he's solid defensively and puts up decent amount of points

Higgins surprises me but I'm sure he'll be gone at the deadline regardless.

Was nice to see Linden talk about some of the recent activity though.

Clendening (760,000) and Corrado (unknown) signed their new deals. Just Baerstchi and Grenier left.

So now we have the 8 D-men for next season. Unfortunately these two guys probably won't see many games because of Benning's children (Sbisa and Bartkowski) being in front of them.

Our forward group is identical except Prust replaces Matthias and Vey replaces Richardson.

Baertschi refused his QO. Wants 1 way, which I doubt is an issue considering he has to go through waivers regardless.

It would be fucking hilarious if benning ends up trading the same way the flames did, except instead of a 2nd it's a 7th!
