It's legal by definition based on lolnhl rule book that no one really knows about, but it was still a hit directly to his head as a principal point of contact.
Rule 48.1, “Illegal Check to the Head,” The rule states: “A hit resulting in contact with an opponent’s head where the head was the main point of contact and such contact to the head was avoidable is not permitted.”
Trouba definitely seek out the hit, definitely preventable, but at the same time it's playoff hockey where hits are far more frequent and players like trouba wouldn't hold back if there was an opportunity to make the hit. So it coulda went either way. If Meier was makar or mcdavid and trouba was raffe Torres, it would be a 9000 year suspension imo.
