I think he means that he can sign an extra year with the sharks whereas if he goes fa and signs with another team, he would have to sacrifice 1year less.

It's crazy how we only see one or two sharks players in the entire screen view most o the time when we're in the offensive zone why isn't the coach telling them they can't score 1 or 2 on 5 while still shooting he puck into the boards more often than towards the net.
