Teams have been allowed to talk to players since July 1. Only an issue if Detroit threw numbers at him.

You can guarantee that many teams would have been negotiating numbers in that period.

Hard to reject teams without having an offer from them (or any other team to compare it to)

it's a dumb rule that yo couldn't talk #s until 12pm today but they've been free agents for 6 days and teams definitely had enough time to resign

now why is this considered tampering but no other previous ones were?

players that were bought out were made UFAs. They were able to find new teams.

Lecav, Briere, Ballard, etc could talk numbers because they were bought out (so were not under contract with any team at the point)
