"Going down with the ship" isn't the honorable thing to do when the fans want you traded and the organization doesn't get a return for you.

Utica won game 1 of their playoffs 3-2 in double OT. Shinkaruk with a goal and assist and Jensen scored a goal.

McCann's team beats McDavid's team 6-3 in game 1 despite a natural hatrick from McDavid lol. McCann had just 1 assist.

Dumb way to end the season, wish we had just lost 4-1 instead of this -_-. Sucks to lose a series when you only got outplayed in 2 games.

That goalie interference call on McMillan was awful like the boarding call that ended the series against San Jose 2 years ago. This one was actually a lot worse because we were getting owned in that SJS series whereas this series was a close. Can't believe that soft of a call could be made at that juncture of a playoff game... baffling.

Still, it wasn't the refs fault we gave up a 3-0 lead, so nobody to blame but ourselves.

Felt like shit after the elimination, of course, but not for as long as I usually would because we know this team wasn't going deep.

----------

Off-Season

Will be a sweet and sour summer.

The good news is we have a lot of promising prospects to look forward to and will probably add another 1st rounder to that mix. The bad news is that we are in contract hell right now: the people we should be getting rid of either won't waive their NTCs or just signed new deals to stay here (and that includes the coach).

Unfortunately, 90% of the roster that just lost will return this coming October. Very little wiggle room, so it probably won't be a very interesting summer.

As for the aforementioned 1st rounder, right now we have the 23rd overall pick. However, it's possible for us to jump up to 19th.

Sedins said no to the WJC because they're banged up.

Hansen wants to go for Denmark but the Canucks denied him because he has a groin injury that could be aggravated.

Bonino is going for the USA.

I'll post the rest as they come :P

--------

Canucks are interested in signing 23 year-old college free-agent goalie Matt O'Connor. He met with team management and the goalie coach and he said he liked what the Canucks have planned for him.

However, a few other teams are interested, so he hasn't made his decision yet.

--------

McCann's Soo is down 2-1 in the series against McDavid, he's on fire right now. McCann is unfortunately not having a good 3rd round :(

Virtanen is suspended for a hit

Have not really made any closing comments on what I thought of our season. I will break it down into positives/negatives.

Positives

- I will say that despite our collapse in game 6 I am very happy with the outcome of this season.

- We rebounded from a dismal previous season and made it into the playoffs despite many thinking we would not.

- had us at around 50/50 when the playoffs began, and when Miller went down on the stretch drive I figured we would be more likely to miss them.

- Eddie Lack continues to improve. I think we can groom him into a consistent starting goaltender. He showed some real ability and was a monster for us some games. Of course their is still issues of consistency, but that is common with younger/less experienced tenders. I think he will get better.

- Bo Horvat was sensational. I knew he was solid when it came to defensive hockey. That being said I was made a fool when he showed he had offensive upside as well. If things continue to remain on the same course we have found a our 2nd/3rd line center for at least a decade barring he stays healthy and continues at his pace.

- Free agent signings were just great! Vrbata is imo the best free agent signing of the year. His cerebral style of play is a perfect synergy with the Sedins and he has proven that he can score without them as well. Miller was also a solid signing. We did very well come free agency, one of the best years in franchise history. Hats of to our new management team for that.

- Some core players rebounded. Burrows had a better year, erasing his 5 goal disaster from the previous year. Had he stayed healthy for the duration of the season he would be a 20+ goal scorer, much of those goals came without the Sedins as well. The Sedins were near PPG once again and showed they can still be first line players.

- Edler was not the league leader in +/- futility. Huzzah! He was much better this year. Albeit he is still taking undisicplined penalties and turning the puck over more then I would like to see. Baby steps though, he is getting back on track.

- As mentioned in detail in another thread we have some upcoming talent. Our prospect pool has not been this stocked in years and it is quite exciting knowing we got some young guys gunning for roster spots come training camp.

Negatives

- Our biggest negative is our contract situation. WAY too many players have NTC contracts, are aging, and as a result their values are severely diminished. It will be hard to make moves in the off season because managements hands are tied quite tightly with this contract/cap mess.

- Once again the need to be a more physical team was not addressed. That goal once again fell short. We saw ourselves physically dominated against the flames, and at times in the regular season as well. It has been an issue for too long.... If we are going to have playoff success that will need to be dealt with. It is a real detriment.

- Overall age is a huge problem. Once again the core is not getting any younger. We have injected the team with new life, but overall a more dramatic youth movement is still needed in my opinion. However see point one... contracts have us tied up.

- While I listed less negatives, the three I listed are big ones obviously. We took a step in the right direction, but much more needs to be done if we want to get back to contention status.

Looking forward to next year. Go Canucks go!

I don't think we'll see Virtanen or McCann next year but I would love to see Gaunce and Shink push for spots on the roster.

Points from the End Season Presser with the players.
Quote (From Reddit)
DANIEL SEDIN, HENRIK SEDIN, ALEX BURROWS, ALEX EDLER
Management's availability will be known Wednesday.
Burrows fractured and dislocated rib cartilage. Happened end of Game 3, WAS NOT RESULT OF FIGHT, NEVER LOST CONSCIOUSNESS, BELIEVES IT HAPPENED WHEN LINESMEN HAD HIM (FUCK THE REFS), happened afterwards. Morning of Game 4 took a shot and aggravated the pain. Ambulance was there as Burr was in a tremendous amount of pain. Could not move. People weren't sure what it was initially.
Henrik thanks the fans for support. Thinks the team is heading in the right direction. When asked if anyone lost their job, says his brother.
Daniel believes we'll see more youth next year. Henrik says we could see more youth and still see a 100+ point season. Was excited to see them have such an impact.
Edler looks incredibly fashionable.
Henrik knows they're getting old but believes they aren't slowing down. Doesn't plan to get worse and keep on focusing on making the playoffs. Daniel says this year is the best he's felt in a while. Once you're in, you have a chance to win it all. Thinks the older core can still play with the younger ones pushing them harder.
16 minutes in, no questions for Edler. Poor Edler.
Henrik believes Stanley Cup is still realistic. Just because you're older doesn't make it any harder but youth always helps. Fully supports it. Believed the team could have gone all the way, feels bad they're here doing this.
Question for Alex! ... Oh wait, just Burr.
Twins will say nothing in regards to management, say to ask them when their time comes around.
Daniel believes the crux was not scoring enough. Doesn't blame a poor PK.
Edler keeps falling asleep.
QUESTION FOR EDLER! Not sure if he'll play at the World Championships.
Burr also believes they can still play at their age.
SEDINS DO NOT WANT A LESSER ROLE. Enjoys taking face-offs in the defensive zone. Wants to play more but won't talk more about it. Wants to be good for years to come. Daniel wants to be the top line still but if the younger kids can replace them and keep us winning, then so be it.
Daniel believed Willie rolling all four lines was a great idea and loved it when it worked. Says it'll be the same next year.
Dear god is this guy feeling okay.
Daniel really looks forward to seeing what the young guys can do. Horvat, Virtanen, and Gaunce named.
Frenchy questions for the QUEBECOIS in the room.
More Frenchy. Something about Bo .
Daniel says he'll beat Henrik to 1,000 points.

NICK BONINO, DAN HAMHUIS, CHRIS HIGGINS, KEVIN BIEKSA
Bonino leaves today at 3. First time representing the U.S.
Hamhuis has committed to Team Canada. Will leave in a few days.
NO ONE IN THIS GROUP WAS INJURED.
Higgins refuses to shave. Does not realize playoffs are over. Look at that glorious motherfucker.
Bieksa believes losing Game 1 was brutal. Believes core is still winnable. Believes more young guys.
Higgins believes the same. Looks forward to youth. Hamhuis also believes there's better years ahead of them.
Bieksa does not believe he'll go to World Championships.
Bonino happy with his year. Blames his hot start for fooling people into the game he plays (won't score 50 goals but plays 2-way game well). Will look to improve over summer.
Bieksa says fan support this year was amazing.
Question about Kass. WHERE IS KASS?
Hammer says end of season is best he's felt in a while. Has not considered waiving his NTC, not prepared to give an answer. Bieksa feels the same, hasn't heard it brought up. Has never been asked to waive.
Tony Gallagher is still Skeletor and is as toxic as he looks.
Bieksa believes youth won't necessary help. Believes we need the best players in the end.

LUCA SBISA, CHRIS TANEV, EDDIE LACK, RADIM VRBATA
Eddie's first press conference!
Radim Vrbata will not play in World Championships. Eddie has not been asked. Luca Sbisa has but declined, is feeling too beat up. Could be injured but says is overall body soreness. Says his knees in particular hurt.
Eddie proud of his accomplishments. Good year, not the ending he expected, but still happy.
Vrbata also suffering from all over pain like Sbisa. Nothing serious.
Up to Willie when it comes to line management, says Vrby. Not upset.
Eddie looks forward to maybe getting more games.
EDDIE ADMITS HIS STEALING OF THE STARTING POSITION AND FAN'S HEARTS HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE HIS DAYS IN THE MINORS.
Tanev admits his Twitter game is weak compared to Eddie's.
BEAR DOWN ARIZONA. Eddie will play whenever he is called upon. He's always there for his team.
Vrbata has no answer as to why the other lines couldn't score. Outplayed with their system.
Eddie says the intimidation of the Saddledome didn't exist. Didn't believe crowd was a factor. Sbisa agrees.
Tanev thinks they have all the players to win. Sbisa agrees.
Sbisa says it was an adjustment getting used to a Canadian market (when compared to Anaheim ["not a large hockey market"] and Philly. Dem pizza burns.)
Eddie has no idea what's going to happen in the summer but wants to stay here. Feels like home. Pictures himself staying here, says it's not up to him.
I think Tanev is a puppet right now. Dude needs to work on his sleep schedule.
Tanev believes youth is dependent on person. Bo is the perfect example of how rookies should train.
Sbisa thinks he needs to work on CONSISTENCY. Doesn't think he's great at anything but not terrible at anything. Eddie however does think he's great.
Sbisa has no idea we call him Pizza. WOULD TOTALLY ENDORSE PIZZA. SBISA PIZZA, YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.

DEREK DORSETT, RYAN MILLER, ZACK KASSIAN, YANNICK WEBER RYAN STANTON
BACK INJURY IS NOTHING SERIOUS. WILL BE READY BY NEXT SEASON. NO SURGERY. "I hurt it in the Phaneuf scrum for sure" but he will not go into Pacifics.
Derek Dorsett happy to be back in a leadership role. Jim told him that's what he wanted from him when he traded for him.
Miller will get into rehab. Believes he'll be back in shape sooner rather than later.
Dorsett voice still surprising people how deep it is.
Dorsett happy to be here. Had his first child here and loves it.
HOLY SHIT THAT'S ACTUALLY STANTON. Frustrated he didn't get to play but hopes to be back next season.
Kass came to the rink every day to rehab.
Kass is eager to come back and win.
Miller believes we can come right back to win.
Dorsett was not injured.
Kass has not had any talks with Linden about what it means to be a Canuck.

SHAWN MATTHIAS, YANNICK WEBER, BRAD RICHARDSON, JANNIK HANSEN
Richardson will be having surgery in foot. Tendon and ligament damage. Could not use it. Surgery not for foot but all around it.
Hansen still sounds like a muppet.
Weber has declined invitation to World Championships. His contract is up and "doesn't want to take the risk of injuring himself in contract year - basically confirming no extension talks if he feels that he has to be in his best shape to prove himself." - /u/devilatthemotel6
HANSEN HAD GROIN INJURY LAST COUPLE OF GAMES. Declines invitation to World Championships.
Matthias is not going to worry about being re-signed. Would love to be back but has no idea if he will. Speaking in past tense a lot.
Weber happy about his year.
RICHARDSON HAS TALKED A LITTLE WITH MANAGEMENT ABOUT COMING BACK. Nothing serious but wants to come back. Likes the team and where it's headed.
More French for the ex-Hab.
Matthias still speaking in past tense. Says it was fun to play in Canada. Deflects question when it comes to what it means to play here. Won't say if it has to do with money. Says he's overwhelmed.
BO HORVAT, LINDEN VEY
Bo loved it. Everything was amazing. Could not have gone better.
Bo believed his turning point was after Christmas. Felt more confidence, wanted to show his offense.
Vey believes consistency was his issue, like Sbisa.
Bo looking forward to getting even better for next year. Vey also looks to bulk up. Consistent. Get in better shape, get stronger, gain coach's trust.
Bo looking to earn more minutes.
Bo not approached by WC team.
WD never yelled at Bo when he screwed up. Bo thankful for that.
Bo says mentor ship from the veterans was huge for development. Really great winning culture.
Bo trains in the summer in London. Will be there all summer.

Bolded question mark players.

Forwards
Sedin Sedin Kassian
Baertschi Horvat Vrbata
Higgins Bonino Burrows
Kenins Gaunce Hansen

Dorsett/Vey.

Nothing special but it's a step in the right direction bringing in younger guys.
-Still lacking on that LW side. Don't have a true top 6 LW.
-I don't see us keeping Matthias, he'll be asking too much. Richardson might stay if management believes that Gaunce isn't ready.

Defense
Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Clendening
Sbisa - Corrado

Unsure what's going to happen with Bieksa & Weber.
-Would love to resign Weber
-Bieksa insists that he goes down with the ship but we'll see if that changes this offseason.
-I can't see Stanton coming back

Miller
Lack/Markstrom

-If management decides to go with Lack I still think he needs another season before he's fully given the reigns.
-Not sure how much good another AHL year will be for Markstrom as he's dominated this year.
-Expecting one of the 3 to probably get traded this off season, especially with Demko now in the prospect pool.

/e I went full derp and Forgot about Baertschi

With that being said, Shinkaruk will probably be in the AHL for another year unless he takes Kenins' spot.
