Cause you cant really know for sure if the player is ready or not if the player says he is not.. cant really argue
If you force him to come back and he gets injured that would look dumb af.
Just put a 5-10% extra cap limit in playoffs and problem is fixed.
Or even better, same limit. If its 80 millions well its 80. Idk why cap stop existing in playoffs, doesnt really make sense.
cap doesnt exist in playoffs because you dont know if you're gonna be the oilers and get swept to play only a week, or be the habs and play for a month etc.
gotta give credit to tampa though, they tried to solve problem by trading johnson or whoever and couldn't find any takers cuz of the flat cap and pandemic, cuz they needed to sign cirelli, cernak and sergachev.
so they probably exhausted all the options to find ways to make the cap work. they traded with sens to get some LTIR players back to "increase" their cap which still wasn't enough until they moved out more cap space. They even waived johnson and no one picked him up lol. My guess is that they've asked if anyone on the team has a nagging injury that they would like to deal with.
Last season ended in june, so kucherov could've got the surgery anytime btwn then and Jan, but he waited to get the surgery end of december to make sure he will be back healthy until after end of regular season. Otherwise, in a normal season without a flatcap or cap problems, i guarantee that these NHL players would want to get the surgery asap in the off season to return to play hockey in the mid season. So they did well covering their basis, cuz in case these suspicion and QQ happens, they refer to the average timeline of the said surgery and lines up consistently so even if NHL investigates it won't be sus. 10/10
