Thats fine and all, but most of us enjoy the game when its played admirably. And trust me when i say that you are in the minority here most hockey fans think its disgusting what they are doing.
1-5mil over the cap, fine, hell even 7-8mil would be borderline acceptable. But nearly 20mil is ridiculous and disgusting and to exploit a loophole so egregiously is far and beyond 'smart management'.

And to think we even had to help tampa by taking on half(?) Of Savards cap hit...

I think if the NHL made a rule like, a player has to play at least 1 game in the regular season to play in the playoffs it would solve this problem. However, i doubt the NHL players would agree to that rule because it's unfair for them if they got hurt, and had to get surgery and the timing when you can return happens to be when the playoffs start. It would suck for them to watch from the bench despite being healthy.

If they took out stamkos and kucherov to meet the cap at 81.5m rn, montreal's chances of winning would be significantly higher no doubt

Gonna be tough for danault to shutdown tampa since they got insane depth up front, but i still got high hopes. Price vs Vasil is awesome

make cap hits and salary cap in effect during playoffs problem solved
even if a team fills the salary with a player or 2 like vas says 1-5m isnt that big of a deal usually the player comes back gets activated
teams dont purposely leave the player on IR and fill his cap then activate the player in the playoffs when theres no caphit/salary cap like tampa did

So that's based on opinion. You draw the line at 7-8 but 20 isn't ok. How is it not smart, they won the cup last year and they are about to win another most likely. Winning is the game.

20 is far beyond reason. The salary cap this year was like 81m. They are above the cap by nearly 25%. That is an absolute joke.
