playoffs are part of the season

They might not even make the playoff

That's very unlikely

I don't consider playoffs part of season.

You often here out for the season, possible return in playoffs/post-season

You also often hear season ending injury, player x won't be back before next season.

So it does include the playoffs.

Well I don't want to go through 3 pages of this, but there is a reason why the regular season is called the season, and the post-season is called the POST-season.

Most season ending injuries, will go to the post season too since it's serious. I remember Pacioretty they called it a season ending injury, but if habs went passed the 1st round he was ready to return.

You also hear many players say things like : we don't want our SEASON to end in april, which means their season does go on after the regular season is over.

The regular season is the qualification round of the season and playoffs the elimination round.


Anyway, this is kind of a pointless debate.

Completely, I think both arguments are right though(except the bolded part). 82 games aren't a qualification round, it's a season

I know it's a bit far-fetched but the regular season's main goal is to qualify for the playoffs. So by that logic it's pretty much equivalent to a qualification round, a long-ass one though.

Why don't playoff points count in season points though on every NHL stats website Since the playoffs are part of the season the stats should still be in the season category
