if they trade him and retires they end up with like 5-6 mil in cap penalties when their team should be hitting it's prime. A problem Vancouver is going to face cause they traded Lolongo instead of buy out.

the entire point of the cap recapture penalty is to fuck over people who tried to fuck over the NHL with their frontloaded contracts

they retained salary

florida got him for a goaltender thay would have to waive, a 4th line center and some other shit i dont even remember what it was, some random pick

luongo is still a high-end goalie, GREAT for marketing in florida since he's still a hero there, brings in FA:s because florida showed committment etc

yeah but i thought it was only on 35+ contracts otherwise they just get penalized like the devils did with kovalchuk
thats why phillys got that issue with pronger he was signed at 35? and has 35+ contract
if we ltir we pay him yes but philly clears up his 5m ... if he retires we get 5m cap space taken up becasue of the recapture..which is dumb being its due to injury

That's fair but also would like to point out giroux is also excellent on the pk. He's not just an offensive powerplay wizard. He is also a two way forward...not to the same level as kopitar or toews. But with that said he still averages a lot more points than those two. You really have to watch him play a lot to just see how good he is. His positioning, passing, vision, awareness, body control, puck control, shot are all top 5. His skating is above average.

I would say he's top 5 possibly 6 with it being Crosby Malkin Tavares Ovechkin and then getzlaf/giroux with my personal bias going towards giroux because getzlaf plays with Perry.
