It's been brought up fairly consistently over the last few years as well.
I'd say it holds some kind of validity, for most of those years the Bruins PP was horrible too. Being a team that is on the PP fewer than nearly all other teams, coupled with a very low PP % meant virtually no scoring from the PP.
Hence why the Bruins were built to be so effective at 5v5 prior to this season.
They also broke the advanced stats bubble by winning with a 5v5 team in 2011.
