I really don't think it's that dismal for the habs man. They have cap space, picks to move, and they can afford to trade a decent winger.

There will be legit centers and d-men available this offseason and ahead of the expansion draft.

Then you have Suzuki and kotkaniemi looking like blue bluechippers, who knows what their celing could be.

Price/Weber still have gas in the tank.. really doesn't seem that bad man

The problem is it really doesn't seem that good either. There isn't near enough high end talent on the team anymore, at least that isn't near the end of its prime. Anything can happen, but I'd say the habs are a few years away minimum from actually competing with the elite teams for a cup

The thing is we would need to trade petry for picks/prospects and get another 1st round pick between the 10th-15th position.

With enough cap.space taking.a bad.contract for a good return would.be possible and we could resign the ufa coming up.next year.

Thats what i hope.and.what i think will.happen is one big trade.this summer and then we sign some average players on the fa market

We really need a.defenceman in this draft and a good winger

It sucks but unless the habs get a lotto pick, they probably have to take a step back before taking 2 or 3 steps forward

Depends what they pick and what is avaible. Id love to have a second first round arround 10-18 to pick one of the following in this order of preference : sanderson, holloway, poirier, mercer, quinn, gunler. This year draft is that damn good and i feel that its the right time to sacrifice some of the valuable player to give the boost this team need at some key positions.

If we get lucky without entering the lotto and draft one of the following guy : stutzle, drysdale, raymond im going to be fucking happy. Perfetti will still be avaible at 8th which is why im not including him.

Like you said they need to take a step back and the best thing that can happen that is realistic is trading petry for a good return including a 1st round and a good prospect (not top tier prospect since its impossible to get that much for petry) take a bad contract to get a good prospect and a 1st round pick. Would put us a step back but in 3 years we would be pretty stacked
