I still think it’s obvious. It’s not at all “one guy claims abuse”, it’s one guy says you used a racial slur towards him, and later that coach admits to it and resigns. This is just the standards that are present in every other workplace coming in to the hockey world. Coaches won’t be fired on rumours. But if you want to go into your office tomorrow and drop n-bombs and punch and kick your subordinates, guess what, you’ll be terminated. I don’t buy the slippery slope stuff here at all. And if this continues and it means all the racists and abusers get kicked out of the game, I don’t see a downside.
Those examples are clear cut.
Peters has been publicly shamed and fired. He deserves every bit of it. His character has been laid out. It is not an isolated incident.
I am not good at explaining myself I guess.
All I am trying to say is, in wake of this, everyone is on alert and second guessing themselves because the culture has changed. At this point I do believe our culture is too soft. That does not mean I support racism or physical assaults.

idk here the line is pretty obvious. We're talking about overt racism, physical abuse and a complete lack of respect/professionalism from coaches who are being called out. Don't call black players the n-word? Don't beat your players? Treat your players with a speck of dignity? Don't be a narcissistic cunt? I'd imagine the general population would have no trouble not tripping.
The general population for sure. Coaches are different though. High pressure situations with lots of money on the line will bring out tense conflicts. Too much is on the line for people to hold back. Emotions are frayed and things are said. That is the nature of the cut-throat business.
Being fired for racism and physical assault is obvious. It is the word 'abuse' that comes with debate. Tactics that worked in the past could be seen as abusive today. In an environment like this there is less room for people to whine that their feelings got hurt.
We don't know what the line is yet though, because it has not been set due to the posts recently being moved. That is why I think those in the spotlight are second guessing their behaviors that may have contributed to their success for many years.
In time more players will come forward, and at some point, the court of public opinion will sway to the point were the majority figure the complaints are 'too soft'. We have not reached that point yet, and until we do, the line is not clear.
In general I feel as a society we are offended too easily.
