Can anyone explain the difference about the throwing the stick penalty/ps rules? Kapanen throws his broken stick at petrys feet when defending a pp and it’s a ps. But phi guy throws his stick to try and stop a break away and it’s only a penalty? Was it because one stick was broken and one wasn’t? Jc

i think its based on the situation if the guys on a breakaway and you throw the stick its a ps but if there is a guy near him sorta fighting him for it its normal 2 min penalty

However, a penalty shot/optional minor penalty shall be awarded to the non-offending team if done in his defending zone.

I guess I could of googled lol.

I would guess so but hard to know with the rule that seem to be up to interpretation. Engaging in play with a broken stick is a 2 and throwing stick at puck is 2 or a ps depending on the situation i think. So i would guess that since he threw stick thst was broken at the puck it couldnt have been just a 2 so they went with the ps

that was interesting
myers helmet comes off then he goes into the corner checks sanheim gives him a couple crosschecks
jvr knocked it off but your supposed to pick it up and put it on or go to the bench not go to the corner check a guy and keep playing for like 30 secs

wonder if they let it go cuz jvr knocked it off? most games ive seen that shits called way faster then that lol

I hate the helmet rule. The player is put in a bad spot either way. If he stays with the play and continues to battle he risks being penalized. If that occurs he looks like a fool who does not know the rules.

If he stops to grab the helmet he may be demonized for being a pussy. Also, imagine if him retrieving his helmet ends up resulting in a scoring chance or a goal. There is no way out for the player in this situation in some cases.

I think Myers got away with it because he was so close to the battle so the refs allowed him to continue. Furthermore Philly was pressing in the offensive zone and if Myers put on his helmet a quality scoring chance would have most likely occured.

Again I just hate this rule. Way to many what if scenarios that will lead to inconsistent calls and confusion. I know the league is trying to protect itself financially but plays like this frustrate the fan base and cheapen the product because we don't have a clear answer.

Didn’t read all that, but all it takes is a few seconds you could get smoked

Safety is good until it costs your team a goal. I guess the guys should buckle up tight and not follow in Messiers footsteps of having the straps flapping in the breeze lol.

I feel for the players on this because of the vagueness of the rule. It is inevitable that someone will get the short end of the stick on this.

I’d much rather not have a player suffer brain damage if it costs a goal tho
