Honestly besides this being a potentially bad influence to kids/teenagers I do not see what the big deal is.
It does not give him benefit on the ice so from a competition standpoint I don't see how it is unfair to use recreational drugs.
I don't care if someone uses drugs leisurely.
His performance is not reduced and he shows no significant health problems at this point from what we can see.
Maybe I am too lax but I don't see what the big deal is. This is a personal choice imo. So long as he fulfills his professional obligations and is not hurting anyone I don't see the problem.
I kind of agree, to an extent, its his life to ruin and nobody can tell him otherwise. However the problem lies in how addictive these drugs are, and how they have the propensity to ruin lives, and the nhl (kind of) cares about the players so long as they are earning the league $$$. Also professional athletes are role models for kids and teens as you pointed out, and they have quite a strong influence on youth, its not a good look and these kids need positive role models, not junkies.
