I don't even think it's that bad. Loot boxes and gambling for skins/cards is the real evil, Games like FIFA and NHL lol. POE does have this but it's something that looks to be on its way out with countries passing laws against it


If gamers want their games to have regular updates and new content, companies have to monetize their games somehow. Money from the box price just won't cut it

Well it's more that execs and shareholders want profits every quarter. No more letting a good game simmer, it must be milked for cash at every turn. Even if the dev team is very passionate the game design is fundamentally warped by the revenue model.

there has been a couple pretty big names t o break off from major companies to make their own and avoid this model whether they stick to it or not only time will tell


take ashes of creation for example the developers have even said they arent in a rush they arent going to put out a half finished half assed game and they would develop it just them if they ran out of money
but they were successfully kickstarted and apparently hired a decent sized team now and are putting out steady updates on the state of the game and its pretty big jumps in development

i remember there was a blizz employee or something and a big guy from like ubisoft? that started their own company a couple years back too


the passion is still out there its just hard to find a company with the same passion but it seems developers have started to try and fix it on their own
