article is obviously garbage. leafs wouldn't take on that much money for that period of time, nor could tampa resign him if that was the case

TSN was talking about it on the radio with McGuire. I think it was real

Bill daly sent out a memo and it would have been compliance buyout so I think it was a legit trade situation.

Lightning don't have the financial freedom to compliance buyout him even.

league already announced that the loophole would not be allowed. And any team willing to trade for a player and an asset only to buy said player out and pay him $40+ million is everything that's wrong with the league.

They can sign him if the Leafs buy him out... that's the point :P but the NHL said it's circumventing

Vinny might have the worst contract in hockey. Right next to Luongo.

Anyone think there is a possibility Luongo gets a compliance buy-out? Kinda surprised we haven't heard any rumblings about this. In all honesty I don't think there are very many destinations he could go, and the few that he could land likely don't want to take on the cap hit.

At this point I don't think Vancouver will find anyone who'd offer a bag of pucks for Lu. Everyone knows that he'll not be a Canuck next season, so no one is willing to take on that contract if they don't have to. But teams are going to be all over him once he's a UFA

Yeah I agree, if he gets bought out there will definitely be a lot of teams interested. I suppose a team -might- offer a late pick (3rd +) for him just to ensure they get him. His contract is kind of ideal for small market teams, because his cap hit allows them to hit the floor comfortably but they don't have to pay him that same $$ as the cap hit.

Edit: Looking at the Canucks cap situation they basically NEED to buyout or trade Luongo so they can get under the cap and re-sign some of the players they are losing (Mason Raymond, Derek Roy, Dale Weise, Max Lapierre to name a few). So I highly doubt any teams will do them a solid and give them anything worthwhile for Luongo.

the next 5 years he makes more than his cap hit. it's not until 2018/2019 that his salary goes down. The biggest factor is the sheer length of it
