There's a realtors booth thing outside my store and I was lookin through the houses and shit for sale.

My dad was a big believer in not using housing as an investment. Used to build homes in suburbs and sell them back in the home country. Dodged a big bullet when he almost got into building in Florida then the 2008 crash happened.

Then he built and sold a home in Surrey in 2015-16 and after crunching the numbers he realized he might as well not have built anything and just sat on the land.

Shit changes

I grew up believing renting was akin to flushing money down a toilet evey month and that paying a mortgage was like putting your money into a bank each month.
Sure doesn't feel like I'm any richer though. Between renos and general house maintenance/wear and tear there is hardly any extra income.

Renting is a viable option, but people who own many houses seem to be doing fine right now so I don't know if I agree with Elon..
