ya i do my own taxes now, imo most people who just work a job and just get a t4 with a few deductibles should just file their own taxes

there's free stuff out there like simpletax that makes it so simple

in your case killing i would look at getting advice from an actual professional accountant

The funny thing is the person I used is a retired professional accountant. Family friend for decades.

Has been doing my taxes since I was of legal age without any issues.

Sadly I think she went senile and I did not realize it because I did not see her much after I moved from Vancouver.

After we filed our taxes my Grandma even said it is probably not a good idea for us to file taxes with her anymore because she noticed a decline in her capacity.

Ah that's unfortunate, but I would still recommend getting advice from a currently up-to-date person to make sure you don't get fucked by the CRA as well because they can be incompetent as well and have been found to tell people the wrong things

yah no reason to not do your taxes if you don't have money everywhere. I got standard wage/pension/investment mix and takes me 30 minutes top every year with simpletax.

The lady doing my wife's and my taxes for 7 years claimed things that weren't claimable and wrote off way too much extra etc

At the time my wife was self employed and the money we owed seemed low, too low, but we thought wow she's good

Turns out we owed $46k to the cra, and they wanted it all the moment we bought our house

Yikes. That sucks. Sorry to hear. Hope you still got the house you wanted.
Should just be doing turbo tax. It's great and easy

Yea we bought the house, and didn't lose it thanks to some investments.

But taking a hit like that hurts.... a lot.

I've always done my taxes on TT too, it's not hard but it was a family friend of my wife's that volunteered to do it for her so she could optimize her write offs... yea we got optimized by the cra instead lol... the fees and penalties were nuts

Turns out my GFs friend plays Diablo 2 and is gonna get resurrected… she messages me yesterday… “how would you feel about playing hardcore”

I said maybe because I didn’t want to seem like a pussy, but I don’t think I can handle hardcore.
