They have bigger issues than goaltending. They need a top center and better defense. Until they get that the goalies will continue to take the fall. And bernier has been stuck as a backup this entire time. He wants a clear starting role, not a team with a goalie he has to compete with again and again.

Surprised by that trade. Bernier is speculated to be a clear #1 but he hasn't had to be one yet. There's no guarantee he's actually going to close the goaltending gap in Toronto. And it's not like Reimer is so bad that they had to make a move or risk being a bottom 5 team next season.

Personally I think the upgrade from Reimer to Bernier and having a better backup won't offset losing frattin and a 2nd.

TOR did take back money (cap hit applied against TOR) in Bernier deal, in the $500,000 range.

I dont get why Toronto wants another unproven goalie. From what I watched down the stretch and into the playoffs Reimer was actually pretty solid. I guess you can never have enough good goalie prospects in your organization though..
