Motivation to make dat cash. For their pockets. For their companies. Giving back is a by-product, and one often done to make the company look good. When you say "they've done more for most charities than any non-profit" that's about capacity not motivation. That makes sense, as no charity out there will ever be as big as Apple. For-profit's primary motivation is not to make the world a better place. Its sad but true. Their charitable initiatives are great, but, to bring it back to the beginning, 'motivation' cannot be greater than those organizations who exist entirely for their pet missions, which are by definition not monetary.
Just sticking up for charities yo.
I don't see how it matters WHY they want to make the impact. Fact of the matter is money is a bigger motivator than happy thoughts. If you want to split ends over that, I'd then argue that for most charities the people at the top are the ones who really care about the cause and internalize it. In for-profits, every single person internalizes it because money.
I'd love to live in a world where butterflies and rainbows run the world but when it comes down to it, put money down and you'll get more done with the same "capacity."
