That is terrible. My condolences.

It's tough, especially now.

So much is expected of us. The day to day pressure is immense.

Can't help but feel this way of living is not sustainable. There is just too much strain.

Ya times are tough right now. April fools day though... had to be planned that way right? Goddamn weird.

I would take on all the hours I could get if I was getting paid that well.

Short term pain for long term gain. The potential to put aside money for investing, pay down loans/mortgages etc is going to pay off. Not an expert on taxes but you can income split with your spouse with an RRSP to save some money come tax time.

It's tough when you have kids but when they are older they will appreciate the sacrifices you made and you can spend more time with the family down the road.

Do such a damn good job they have no choice to hire you long term, full time.

This mindset never makes sense to me, why overwork yourself when you’re young just so be too old just enjoy most things, also, who knows if you even last that long, could die tomorrow

I am trying to find a balance but am failing at it to be honest.

When I am at work I am aggravated because I would rather be doing something I would actually enjoy.

When I have free time I find myself thinking I could be working, making more money to invest so I can retire earlier with those gains.

Either way I am never fully satisfied with the situation. Trying to change my way of thinking so I can be more in the moment so to speak.

I always think long term and am too pragmatic for my own good.

For someone who has kids it is easier to put your head to the grindstone. You are working for someone besides yourself and want your kin to not have to work for as long as you did.

With my luck I will probably just get hit by a bus the day I retire anyways lol.

i think everyone have their own goal in life, some people want to enjoy life when they're young

some people want to be financially independent at a young age so they don't have to work for someone so they condense the grind at a young age so they get to enjoy retirement much earlier

there's no real right or wrong way to live your life, do whatever makes you happy

Exactly right. This is my goal.

Finding the balance that makes you happy consistently is the challenge.

A buddy of mine committed suicide a few weeks ago. Pretty tragic.

He did it on April 1st, April fool’s day. The guy had a sense of humour for sure, but why then? Can’t decide if it’s just a strange coincidence, or a planned date. So strange.

Leaves a big hole and unanswered questions

Sad to hear

My wife’s sister and her husband were incredibly frugal through their 20’s, lived at home til 26, moved out into their first house with a huge down payment, 10yrs later they own 4 houses, have an incredible portfolio and she doesn’t have to work for the rest of her life already... she’s 36 and has plenty of time left in her to enjoy her very early retirement. [However she decided to become a trades teacher instead]. They made so much money this last year on stocks that they’re giving money away to family members who aren’t doing well etc.

they’re the most boring people I know

Lmfao idk if this is jusf sad or hilarious af

So at work, our terminal is on shortage of workers, so they get other employees from other cities in bc to fly over and help out. They gotta do some familiarizing shifts, so they learn the area and learn how to do their job etc.

Apparently the new guy never washed his work gear since he bought it, and it stinks like shit. We know this cuz the dude told ppl lol. Anyways, the guy politely told him like don't take it the wrong way, but you really gotta wash ur stuff man, and do you mind sitting in the other engine? The dude said sure. The guy that said that is getting fired for harassment and theft lmao. Obviously he's getting his job back but damn that's kinda fucked up haha
