Yeah, I have zero faith and trust in the government. They truly don’t have the interests of the majority of people at heart. So fuck them.

It's impossible when you have a center left/right voting for the same person/party that a far left/right is voting for

honestly politicians now just say whatever to get elected, then they do whatever they want, which is mostly helping their buddies out with nice fat government contracts and under the table deals

there might be a few good people here or there but they're definitely not the majority

To be honest I would've voted for Jack Layton if he was still alive, the guy just seemed like an honest, no bullshit guy.

Was thinking the same thing.

Parties aside I think he truly wanted to make Canada better. Not many politicians left who give a shit.

Most politicians are just looking to line their pockets and help out their friends with our money.

The system is flawed from the core.

I don't see very many (if anyone at all) moving up the political ladder without making some 'friends' along the way who helped you out.

Look how much money it costs to run a campaign. An honest man cant compete on his own within the rigged hierarchy.

Essentially you need someone to back you. Whether that be corporations, special interest groups, other established politicians with their own personal agenda...

If you make it to the top you were bought and paid for at some point. Throw a six figure salary, a golden parachute pension/health plan and a very light work schedule someone's way and they are going to play ball to keep that gravy train rolling.

I read a polisci study about how "grassroots" Canadian lawmakers are, and it's quite interesting that most of them tend to belong to a ton of different local groups like churches, professional associations, sports clubs and the such. no matter your ideology you need support in your local riding association to get a nomination, and a fair share of voters can swing based on name recognition within the riding. sure you can be bankrolled for favorable party and media coverage but it's hard to beat voter motivation from a genuine acknowledgement of your presence in your riding. even in heavily partisans riding (say rural Alberta or yuppy Montreal) that'll probably be the difference maker in securing the nomination.

you'd be surprised at how easy it is to be elected if the circumstances are right. my provincial MLA had run for city council on a "urban mom" platform and even though she lost, she got in the good graces of local progressives who then supported her BCNDP nomination, as well as having a ton of fluff media coverage locally. she won it and since the riding is super safe for the party, ezpz MLA bucks.

then my federal MP was an university lecturer who was involved quite a lot with progressive activists, local charities and social workers, as well as having "wonk" connections from prior UN work (important in a capital city). so again, a retirement came up and she had plenty of support for her nomination, and as a safe NDP riding she sleepwalked through the general elections. so two fairly "random" people who didn't really need star power or bankrolling to make it to the legislature, just building relevant local connections and taking advantage of vacancies.

capitalism is stronger than democracy, which is the root of the problem

What’s the alternative?

I don’t think you will like living in a communist state

i just think democracy should be stronger than capitalism and not the other way around. Money rule the world. Even if you own Amazon i dont think someone should be making 2,500$ per second while others are starving.
We're fking crazy with covid cause old people are dying but we let kids starve to death everyday while Mr Bezos couldnt even spend half of his money even if he wanted to.
I'm not saying Bezos doesnt deserve to be rich, we can have rich and poors but the gap between those 2 is just insane.

And our ''democracy'' do you really feel you have any kind of power in this democracy, even if you win your election.. whats the point? Anything will be different? I dont see any real change no matter who is elected. How about we vote when it's big decision time? with technology it would be something we could do.

In the age of meme stonks and internet viral trends, I think this could be catastrophic to the humans as a species. Without question.

No I don’t feel like I have any power in our current democracy, but I don’t really wake up every morning expecting to. My voice doesn’t carry anymore weight than the person with an opposing point of view. Our current system is the best thing available to us at this point in time. Unless you have an alternative. The aforementioned suggestions have historically ended in serious bloodshed, I’d prefer to avoid that.
