if he leaves for khl we no longer have his rights becasue we terminated the contract right? if we dont terminate and he leaves and come back years later he woulda had been a flyers player still no?
kind of like radulov with the preds?mighta been a good idea to not terminate if thats the case if he gets good toi in russia hes still 22 and could develop into a decent player
Radulov comparison is really not valid at all, he was a established star who defected back to khl. Nashville held his rights until his contract expired at which point he signed in Montreal , Nashville had no control and got nothing since he was a ufa.
In this kids case he’s never played an nhl game and if philly wanted to retain his rights after this period of time and not having any nhl games they would need to resign him. Which if he’s not interested in playing in North America anymore you can’t force him too , nor would you really care since it’s highly unlikely he’ll suddenly develop into a nhl roster player. That’s just how free agency / 90 player reserve list works.
