Maybe I am cynical but I think it was calculated.

There is an upward motion targeting the head but he is smart enough to not leave his feet.

He probably thought he would get two at most which is why he was seen having a shitfit in the tunnel.

I'd agree to an extent. I'd like to think an experienced player with Reaves wouldn't intentially target the head, game 7 tied etc. Like that's not worth the risk. He was playing on the edge and made a real bad decision.
Obviously his fault, and knew what he was doing I just don't think it was "malicious" or predatory.

Overall, just a big dumb bitch move.
