My guess is roster forward (between 2nd and 3rd line), good prospect and a pick. Sens fans will obviously want that pick to be a 1st rounder but I just can't see it happening in this current trade climate. Teams aren't willing to give up that much for an upcoming UFA. They'll easily get a 1st if it's conditional upon his re-signing.

Seems about right. He will be a tough sell though.

With the ufa market in a salary cap/abundant long term contract era imagine how much he is going to command after he becomes a UFA.

It will be a VERY tough resigning. I think the idea of conditional picks will come up often. However Ottawa would probably want to avoid something like this if possible because there is a very good chance he will not be retained by the team he is traded to.

Combine that with the fact that there are other C's on the market + he is passing his prime I think many Sens fans may end up disappointed on the return.

I don't know they'll even get that. Can you think of more than 3 teams that need a 1C? Or more than 5 teams that would take a 2C at 7 million? The demand just isn't there for top centers right now, I really think Spezza should fetch a top prospect and 1/2 rounder MAX. As an armchair GM I'd ideally pick a good-leadership veteran + high pick + hit-or-miss prospect.

/e The problem with spezza and any other high dollar contract guy is the fact that they're better value at the trade deadline, because teams have to sacrifice less cap to get that person. That's why you won't see the 1st + NHL-ready player + prospect deal for any of them until mid-2015. If Spezza's traded right now, it's for a modest price because the club is committing to bombing.

Well IMO the Blues are a perfect fit because they do need a 1C / offensive top-6 center. Somebody who can match Tarasenko skill wise and let Steen - Backes - Oshie be an elite 2nd line.

They also can give a decent package in something like Berglund + Rattie/Jaskin + 1st (if he re-signs). It's not an amazing package for a true 1C like Spezza but it's pretty good considering he only has 1 year left on his deal.

Plus, it works for Spezza 'cause it's a small market that isn't hockey crazy and they have a good young team.

Spezza to the Blues and Kesler to the Ducks just makes too much sense for me :P or maybe it's wishful thinking lol

Certain players we made an offer for, we lost a whole playoff season 'cause of it. The offer won't be as generous.

Obviously referring to Kesler. Speculation that they traded Penner away to make room and then the Canucks said no

lol @ him if he really is bitter enough to offer less now. His team will be better with Kesler on it, holding a grudge makes no sense. Good luck getting through the 2nd round with the center depth you have now.

Vinny, Brad and Dan should all just get together in Florida.

He isn't bitter . At deadline we get him for 3 playoffs , now we get him two . His value dropped and that's why offer won't be the same . It won't be DSP or vatanen or etem . It will likely be rakell + picks

I said think of three though. If blues are the only destination then they have Murray by the balls. Spezza is leaving one way or the other so if there aren't more than a couple teams competing, sens get shit.
