I don't know they'll even get that. Can you think of more than 3 teams that need a 1C? Or more than 5 teams that would take a 2C at 7 million? The demand just isn't there for top centers right now, I really think Spezza should fetch a top prospect and 1/2 rounder MAX. As an armchair GM I'd ideally pick a good-leadership veteran + high pick + hit-or-miss prospect.
/e The problem with spezza and any other high dollar contract guy is the fact that they're better value at the trade deadline, because teams have to sacrifice less cap to get that person. That's why you won't see the 1st + NHL-ready player + prospect deal for any of them until mid-2015. If Spezza's traded right now, it's for a modest price because the club is committing to bombing.
Well IMO the Blues are a perfect fit because they do need a 1C / offensive top-6 center. Somebody who can match Tarasenko skill wise and let Steen - Backes - Oshie be an elite 2nd line.
They also can give a decent package in something like Berglund + Rattie/Jaskin + 1st (if he re-signs). It's not an amazing package for a true 1C like Spezza but it's pretty good considering he only has 1 year left on his deal.
Plus, it works for Spezza 'cause it's a small market that isn't hockey crazy and they have a good young team.
Spezza to the Blues and Kesler to the Ducks just makes too much sense for me

or maybe it's wishful thinking lol
