I know, I know... but he signed that Flames offer sheet, and I've still got blue balls.

Offer sheets are a crock of shit. Ends up either with one team overpaying or the other team getting an easy contract for an RFA who doesn't want to sign. Players sign offer sheets to guilt their current team into giving them more money.

I do not even think it is a matter of guilt. It is just greed.

You force the team you currently play for to overpay you, thus compromising the teams salary cap budget. So in essence all you have done is severely reduce your current teams chance of winning (if they match)

it is in your best interest, the team who matches however will suffer. Unless of course this is a team that spends nowhere close to the cap.

And if the offer is not matched your previous team receives draft picks that are not worth your value.

Either way it is a dick move to ruin your current or previous teams chance of winning.

To you, and other Sens fans...

What type of return is expected/hoped for?

My guess is roster forward (between 2nd and 3rd line), good prospect and a pick. Sens fans will obviously want that pick to be a 1st rounder but I just can't see it happening in this current trade climate. Teams aren't willing to give up that much for an upcoming UFA. They'll easily get a 1st if it's conditional upon his re-signing.
