Watch these clips of our 3rd round pick from this year, 6'7 230lb Russian D-man Nikita Tryamkin.
Guy is Chara sized but skates ridiculously well, it's messed up. Supposed to be a defensive D-man but he seems to know how to get his wrister on net and can walk the line pretty well.
I try really hard not to get excited about any of prospects (a Canucks fan knows why), but this guy might turn out good:

He'll be at prospects camp this summer but will head back to Russia. He'll come over once he finishes the remaining 2 years of his contract there.
I mean I do not want to compare him to Chara, however to play Devil's advocate....
Chara was also a 3rd round draft pick....
When Chara first came into the league he was a goon, with not very much skill.
He continued to improve every year and soon he was not just there to fight and throw his weight around.
He became the go to guy, the Norris trophy winner, the guy that did EVERYTHING very well.
If you watch some of Chara's early fights you can tell his skating/balance is absolutely terrible, and his strengh improved tremendously, even after he was passed his mid 20's
Early on Chara looked rather pinner compared to what he is now.
If this guy passes the awkward stage as ferraro suggested we may have a gem. Chara worked on his game on and off ice like a monster, one of the fittest guys in the league because of his efforts. This guy will need to do the same.
Obviously I do not expect this guy to be the next chara but he could turn out to be a serviceable d-man if he is brought about slowly and developed carefully.
This is the kind of base that you can add lots of ability to if alll the starts align and things work out. Certainly worth a go at the 3rd round.
