This is what I thought too. And look at Texas as an example.
No major crime there cause everyone is carrying

Canada - 2 annual gun related deaths per 100,000 (.51 homocides)
US - 10.3 annual gun related deaths per 100,000 (2.83 homicides)

I heard a report on the radio months back in the DFW area about two 2-bit hoods rushing in a 7/11, both of them armed and aggressive, and long story short, one of the people working there happened to be an ex-cop or military, was carrying, and managed to shoot them both dead right there on the spot.
