Not really, individually pld is seen as a better player than the players Jets got for him. I guess in a way, it's comparable to like trading horvat for garland, Joshua and blueger. Horvat is better player than 3 of those guys, but those 3 are legit depth players that makes the team better as a whole. It just looks a lot worse cuz pld decided to play like a bottom 6 rather than a top 6 player lol. Also the reason why hellebuyck signed an extension with the Jets instead of testing the UFA cuz he felt those guys they got were enough for him to think they'll be competitive.

Kent Hughes did a great job making rebuild trades, getting 2 1sts for Monahan is top tier asset management lol. Just pray he can draft well. I feel like cooley was the one to pick over slaf, but time will tell which picks ends up being impact nhl players or busts

in the beginning of the season id agree cooley looked like the better pick but currently i love what im seeing from slaf

in hindsight probably cooley will be the better player overall but i dont regret the pick like kotkaniemi (fucking bergevin/timmins reaching instead of tkachuk)

Another first round pick out the door.

Not sold on Monahan.... Damaged goods. Too much risk he gets injured imo but I hope to see him thrive in Winnipeg.

Based on the Monahan trade, don't see how Anaheim asks for anything less.

Unless nobody bites and Anaheim capitulates as the deadline nears.

There are only so many teams that are going to be desperate enough / believe in themselves enough to give away 1st round picks for non impact players.

imo
Lindholm>Monahan>>>Henrique

TB traded all of this for Jeannot :
Cal Foote (LOL)
2023 3rd round pick
2023 4th round pick
2023 5th round pick
2024 2nd round pick
2025 1st round pick [Conditional]*
*Conditions: Top 10 protected

I dont see how people say Monahan wasnt worth a 1st + at least a 3rd or a B prospect. Hughes failed hard here imo. He was scared Mony would get injured and pulled the trigger way too soon.

I might be wrong and Henrique will be traded for less than a 1st

I wouldn't be surprised if Henrique is traded for less for the reason I mentioned but I really don't think there's much of a difference value wise between him and Monahan.

Both are reliable veterans that can play center and have pretty much the same amount of points this season.

Also don't think Jeanot is a comparable as Tampa saw him as a unicorn type player that would be part of their core going forawrd as he was coming off a very tantalizing rookie season.

On the other hand, Monahan is just your standard deadline rental.

we could have got a lil bit more
but not a whole lot
and there's always a risk with monohan

and in the end

we got a 1st round pick with him
and we just traded him for another 1st round pick

that's 2 free 1st round picks

Thats a bad mentality though

Not because you had a free 1st initially that you should then settle for cheaper.
You should always maximize the value of your current assets, not considering how much it did cost you initally.
Even you if you draft a superstar in the 7th round it doesnt mean you should trade him for cheap ''because he did just cost a 7th round pick''

Yes overall i guess it's ''ok''. We are just hyper lucky Flames GM is retarded but we couldnt maximize the gift they did us.
We're happy with being ok when we shouldnt accept anything else than greatness. And that's why we've been sucking for 30 yrs.

it's not like we were gettign 2 1st round picks

monahan has value because he's not injured
so I feel like he did the right thing
and in the end we only gained assets and didn't give anything

Yeah but in Monahan case, it was a cap dump and Hughes got a 1st for him. It didn't cost your team anything but cap space you didn't need. Then got another 1st to trade him as a rental, while dumping his cap. He was never going to be your core player anyway, he was a player Hughes gambled on and won. That's hella maximizing value. 2 additional 1sts literally for free, with no cap space retention, no initial price paid, just straight up 2 extra first!
