The gov threat was to cut the subvention to the league if they didn't proceed to ban hockey fight. The league was in a financial precarity due to COVID-19 and the gov chipped in with a subvention somewhere around $20M to the league.

The hockey fight ban was in talk way back then when Jonathan Roy went full roid rage and made the news.

Plenty of hockey guy here wanted the ban. The league board of director took way longer than anticipated to proceed. They had a vote on this in 2020, but voted to keep the fight back then.

I think hockey fight still have a place, but I feel weird when adult are entertain when minors get involved in a hockey fight... I get that adult also play in this LHJMQ league, but image the hastle to ban hockey fight only for minors? At the end of the day, I don't think it will make a major difference at the draft to be fair.

I agree with you that it’s weird when minors are fighting adults and fans find that entertaining. What I don’t agree with is the talking point that “removing fighting is going to improve player safety.”

IMO and from my personal experience it’s going to do the opposite. I’m not some boomer who wants “old school hockey” I played in the Quebec league in the 2010s and then played University hockey for 4 years. The league without fighting (university) was unequivocally more dirty and rough. Wasn’t even close.

I’m anticipating an increase in penalty minutes across the league compared to last season

I feel the same way, I just cant back it up with real experience.

I like how alvin signed a bunch of defensively responsible and pk players on a cheap or decent contract. With Suter, blueger can play the 4c role.

Even top 6 will be very competitive with abundance of wingers.

It's a good gamble, hagel is relentless and Tb is basically trying to lock him up as the cap goes up over the years, it'll become a bargain every year.

Matthews has reportedly signed a 4 year deal @13.25 million.

I guess he wanted to do even more damage to the Leafs.
