[Seravalli] Gary Bettman says that the NHL is approaching $6 billion in revenue - “give or take.” Last season was in the neighborhood of $5.4 billion.

Half way in and already surpassed last season.

around 750 million in revenue when he took over in 93. Owners love him. He helped make them more money and brought in a salary cap to reduce players share of the take.

I can't stand the guy. 3 lockouts under his tenure and his ego prevents him from letting go of his bad decisions.

Picking Miller over horvat

We can only speculate but maybe Horvat was offered a contract first and refused?

Then they went with Miller? Who knows. Either way with Horvat @ 8.5 until he is 35 I can accept it.

He has likely his his career high this season. 8.5 million for a 2nd line center (unless he overtakes Barzal for 1c who has a terrible contract) is pretty steep.

Obviously we know how good of a 200 foot player he is but that's a big cap hit.

Well in Montreal we have suzuki at 7.875 (ofc he is younger atm) and horvat is a better sniper and id even say better defensively. I think that horvat will be worth it at 8.5 for all his prime

I doubt it, seems like they just tried to secure Miller first, thinking they were confident horvat would sign for much less considering he seemed like a nuck for life guy. However less than 6m probably insulted him lol.

Could've got it done for around 7m avv if they signed before this season he's having. I don't think horvat is a good 200ft player, he also has his defensive issues. He definitely tries hard to be a 200ft player though and puts in 110%.
I think horvat will most likely be 1c for nyi and barzal shift over to his wing. They compliment each other as one is a much better playmaker and the other is a finisher.

Most reports indicate they tried to sign Horvat first but it was a lowball offer, and when he rightfully declined they shifted their focus to Miller.

And Miller's camp, after they saw what happened with Kadri and somewhat Gaudreau, decided to secure the bag ASAP.

The Canucks then upped their offer a few times based on the season Bo was having but JR admitted himself they couldn't pay him for what he was doing this year, which makes sense. You don't want to overpay for a contract year, although that's kind of what they did with Miller lol.

What they should have done, and probably what most fans wanted, was trade Miller when his value was the highest and re-sign Bo at a fair price. They probably could have got Bo at 7M x 8 in the summer, maybe even like 6.5

They bungled the whole situation pretty good, but if Raty and that 1st turn out maybe it'll be okay in the end lol.

Exactly. Return for Miller could have been massive and Horvat could have still been a Canuck.

Yeah, considering Miller was having a big season and he had 1.5 years left @ potentially around 2.75M with retention, that should have returned a haul at the deadline.

But it seems like the organization was fooled by the Bruce Bump and doubled down. Now we're floundering, as most of us expected, but for some reasons the professionals that get paid millions couldn't foresee it.
