How anyone can look at this trade as anything but Florida getting absolutely fleeced is beyond me. Either we sign those guys for years, or trade them at the deadline for a king’s ransom. Win win. Florida gets a great player, but hell I’d argue they don’t even get the best player in the deal! Big win.

I mean, it's best Calgary could do given the situation.
Going to be nice to see hubey more often.

if it gets to the point where they are moving these guys at the deadline, just start tearing it down and rebuild.

Friedman saying Treliving made the deal to try to win the division again, if hearing that helps you sleep better at night.

After getting so burned by Johnny, zero chance the trade deadline goes by without deals or a trade this year

yeah for sure, but it's tough for brad cuz he made this trade so that you guys can go for it before the window closes. Wouldn't make much sense to trade em if they're trying to go for it. Unless they absolutely suck with the flames and doesnt fit, but then yeah the trade value would be low too if that's the case.

So if they perform well, but dont wanna sign, will brad trade em to get something in return? or will he use em to go for it?

Obviously Flames have extensions in mind for at least one of those guys, probably both. Everyone assuming they’re 1 year rentals longing for Montreal is dumb.

of course their goal is to extend them, but what if they wanna see their options in UFA first and not stay in calgary. the two little fuckers that lived in calgary for a bit wanted out, so why would those 2 new guys wanna stay limited to calgary?

I don't know if you can even afford Weegar long-term, doesn't really make sense if he's gonna play on your 3rd pair. If he's used as an own rental that would be fine.

Huberdeau is obviously the big fish, but it's possible Florida gave him away because they know he wants to test UFA.

yeah the bridge is burned, and he demanded way too much

Calgary would definitely pay up what he wants though, but will he wanna stay or go elsewhere with the same or better offer?

Huberdeau waived his no move to come to Calgary. Those two little fuckers left for American reasons, and despite every blogger’s hot take, is not part of some mass exodus trend from Calgary because of blah blah blah. Treliving is rolling the dice on signing Huberdeau, who knows how the season goes, but the team still looks competitive to me right now anyway.
