Vegas traded three draft picks for Tomas Tatar.

Then traded Tatar and Nick Suzuki for Max Pacioretty.

Then traded Max Pacioretty for nothing.

I forgot about him and he doesn't play PP at all because of Hedman and Sergachev

It has potential to sting, but he's an impact player who has a few more good years left.

Shows how much better it is to have cap flexibility/space than to win a hockey trade. Canes literally got burns and patches for free lol and a rhd prospect.

"Our decision was it was best for us not to go back to Calgary and then we decided to figure out what was the best option for us and Columbus was right up on top of the list."

Gaudreau told Portzline he was unaware that his decision had caused such a big reaction in the hockey world. "It's all outside noise to me," he said.

Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen told The Athletic conversations with Gaudreau picked up steam late in the afternoon. "It kind of came out of the blue," he said. "It was like are you serious about this?"

What a goddamn weirdo. Even CBJ GM was like is this a joke?

Thx Johnny for lying about wanting to stay and stringing us along, even through the draft

It sucks but he had no obligation to do anything different.

Your GM should have moved on earlier if they had contingency plans in place.

If the plan was to just wait and see what happens that's exactly what you got and that's on the GM lol.

Not sure what else could have been done, unless you would have like traded for Debrincat at the draft or something. Pretty much impossible to replace the type of value lost here.

Its clear now he wasn't upfront with anyone about how he was leaving no matter what. His exit interview he reiterated that "Calgary is a special place for me and I do really, really love it here.", which looking back was kind of shitty to say. Conroy called his deal a "done deal" before that too, so the organization was sure they had him, when he had already made up his mind to go.

But ya trading his rights at the draft and making those moves with the knowledge he was gone would have been very helpful to the team. There are a million ways to leave a team, but he sort of chose the worst option possible for his former team. He has the choice, but whole thing just screams immaturity and him wanting to run away to a smaller stage, and somewhere he won't have to play playoff games. Oh well.

He pulled a Tavares. Alternatively when Rick Nash asked for a trade from CBJ I remember he said he wanted to get the club a big return to jump start their rebuild. That's probably all bullshit lip service stuff, but wish Gaudreau went the Nash route.

It's not like you were gonna trade Gaudreau at the deadline even if he said he was leaving, Flames were a legit Cup contender. Tavares situation was a bit different because they were a bad team that season and he could have asked for a trade at the deadline to help the Islanders recoup something.

Coulda got what, like a 2nd round pick for his rights at the draft? It's something but negligible relatively speaking.

Maybe he really was undecided until just a few days ago when it came out that he informed the Flames he was leaving. You're assuming he knew all along but was stringing the team along... I don't know that he would have any reason to do that unless he's secretly pissed at the organization lol.

8 x 7.95 for Norris

On one hand it's a fine price for your long-term 1C and he will probably earn the contract.

On the other hand, he's done nothing in the league so I don't see how the Sens couldn't get it a bit cheaper. At least Thomas already has a PPG season under his belt.

A 2nd would have been nice lol. But more so the draft is for the wheeling and dealing. And yes, I think it’s also clear he held a big grudge for Treliving and his last negotiations. Sure as hell looked like he wanted to burn him. I don’t think leaving 17m on the table means it was a late decision at all now, with hindsight on it all.

Vouch, that’s why I say trade Tkachuk this summer now if he won’t sign for his big deal now :(
