However, pts is just a bonus because he's specialty is that other teams don't score as much when he's on the ice... getting 50+ a season is good enough with that imo.

I mean, it's not an absolute bad signature i can live with it, im just bugging on the 8 years contract, but yet again it's my opinion.
I would have prefered a Kadri/Malkin signature for 2-3 years instead of keeping him at this price..

We have so many talented young played and we should focus on those one instead.

Both of those guys are significantly older, signing them to 3-4 year deals is playing fire, way more so than nunchucks for 8. It is what it is, and you prefer what you prefer, but resigning kadri or malkin to the amount of money they will want is much riskier. Especially when their production inevitably takes a nosedive off a cliff as tends to happen to 30+ year old players... especially after signing a big contract.
