Watching the presser - got an awesome feeling about Benning.

A thing they brought up that I thought was interesting was that both him and Linded want to be heavily involved in the scouting including being at games of prospects, etc.

Yeah. I like what he's been saying so far. Same with Linden.

And hopefully they find a way to move some of these awful contracts with NTC/NMC's on them.

I'm excited as well. Nice to have a guy who comes from a scouting and player personnel background. He's a talent evaluator and that's exactly what we need for a GM.

Just a heads up, they are pretty much identical. The same questions and the same answers.

Some notes:

- Both Linden and Benning feel like they can still win with this core. Still want to get younger, but no rebuild coming.

- Willing to ask players to waive their NTCs.

- Want to play a puck-possession, up-tempo style.

- Wants the bottom-6 to be more physical and there will be an emphasis on having a balanced 4-line team.

- They feel good about both Lack and Markstrom but not really clear if they want to add to and/or change the goalie situation.

- They both want to keep Kesler if he is willing to stay.

- Sounds like the scouting staff won't be revamped. Instead, Benning will try to work with and educate them on what he's looking for and what they should be looking for.

- Looks like Lorne Henning, Laurence Gllman and Stan Smyl will all retain their positions.

Why? And how?
He's firmly entrenched in NJ.

He had a fantastic season behind a garbage team.

Benning had a short interview on Sportsnet radio this morning.

He was asked about Kesler and, surprisingly, we got an answer different than "Kesler is a great player and we want him in Vancouver":

We've touched base with the agent and we've touched base with Ryan... We're still going back and forth on that. We're going to listen to Ryan and we're going to have good honest and open communication and where it leads to, at this point, I don't know.

Interesting, I would say, because it doesn't seem very clear. I was always sure that he would be back next season but I guess it is possible that he wants out ASAP. Apparently he did give his list of 6 teams in one of the recent meetings.

Still, I'm not getting my hopes up. Definitely want him traded but not expecting anything.

Ugh, and this is why the deadline last year was a failure. You wont get more for him at the draft than you would have last year at the deadline. Fuck.
