But you’re asking a 3-4 million dollar player to play like a 6 million dollar player during his prime development years.

We all know what happens to overpayed players, they become radioactive and the center of attention

Do you think 6.1 is an overpay?

Overpayment? Perhaps. He is the young gun they need though. It’s not like overpaying isn’t a thing these days. Look at what’s happening with the defensive market for example.

I wouldn’t put too much weight on that.

I also doubt he’s going to be ‘radioactive’ and he’s not going to be the centre of attention on a team like Carolina that has depth and will be contending.

Will he have more pressure on him there than in Montreal? Sure. Should he have? I would say so. Montreal was a shit show for him.

/edit

Maybe different type of pressure than in Montreal, no so much more pressure.

I think it’s a drastic overpay, and calling him a young gun may be a little generous, his numbers are ugly. Overpayments have largely been on established players.

Time will tell I guess, but 6.1 for a 30-40 point guy who isn’t exactly defensive wizard looks ridiculous to me.

Good for him getting the bag though lol

His ceiling and upside is way higher than what happened in Montreal, that’s obvious. Again, Montreal was a shit show with garbage development. Watch what happens this season. Guaranteed his production value increases as well as his 200ft game.

I think there's no way Habs match. They would be so fucked for Suzuki new contract

Take the assets and let him go. A 1st + 3rd for KK is not a bad deal tbh.

There's a huge difference though, it's not like Benning is offering kk through FA and expect him to patch up a 1c role or something and become heavily disappointed when he busts.

Accepting an offer sheet is completely different, especially when people understand why he is overpaid at 6mil for 1 year. It's a calculated offer by canes as a revenge for Aho. No one expects KK to be a 6mil player rn, if they do, that's on them. It's also not an anchor contract, it's only for 1 year. It's not the Benning special of 6x6 to a player that's nearing the end of his 20s, he's literally just 21. So I doubt fans would give a fuck lol it would only matter if he's locked up few yrs and heavily under performs every year, then yeah I can see your argument

Aho was at least worth his offer sheet though haha

If he goes to the Canes, does he have to be qualified at 6.1 after next season?

no, they can choose to not qualify him and then re sign him on a more affordable multi year deal. Which i think they probably discussed with a hand shake/verbal deal if KK fits nicely with the team. Plus they have been trying to trade for KK with montreal the past few days, but it's reported that it wasnt even close.

GM's dont generally offer sheet because they're "worth" the contract, it's usually designed to fuck over the other team's plan. Bergi designed the contract so that it was heavily front loaded, since there were rumors that the Canes were struggling financially, and bergi hoped it would make it harder for them to accept the offer. (11.3mil signing bonus) and it puts aho straight into UFA at the end of contract, buying him only 1 year of his ufa. (Aho could've gotten more, considering others signed for more or slightly less being an inferior player to him. Plus he just finished his ELC and was offered 11.3m signing bonus, who would say no to that?)
