$20 signing bonus certainly does make it a circus but the thing is he was probably offered at least 2-3 million more to play for Carolina.
It is a slap in the face but a lot of young players would be willing to insult their current team for that kind of money.
Going from an ELC to $6 million is a big jump.
If Carolina was a bottom feeder I would let him go and start fresh. The problem is Carolina is a playoff team barring a disaster so you are likely looking at a 2xx overall pick. You can't stomach that when you are letting a player go who was 3rd overall a few years ago.
