The Islanders have acquired a second round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft and forward Richard Panik from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenseman Nick Leddy.

seems like teams are much preferring to sell low on likely Seattle targets and have them take a lower priority player than to make deals at the draft. smart as they can shop anywhere in the league instead of being held hostage by the expansion GM.

Yep, Seattle cant do what Vegas did. Vegas made sure the teams couldn't do any side deals, so they held them hostage. The league learned from the last expansion and prefer to sell low than to gain nothing or trading with Seattle to give them even more than they have to

they also learned paying assets to have vegas take a certain player can really bite you in the ass
so selling low for a draft pick where you can try to recoup the asset seems like the smart choice
