They know they are more than good enough to make playoffs without him so they let him take longer to recover from his injury.

In turn it gives them cap space to sign players they would have otherwise not been able to afford under the cap and now they are involved in additional cap shenangians.

Makes the league look like a joke.

Makes me even madder being a Canucks fan because we got punished with a cap penalty for the Luongo contract due to circumvention.

How is this entire saga not an ongoing exploitation of the cap?

Think it was the 00-01 season and the Rangers had $101 million in salary and did not make the playoffs lol.....

They probably had 3-4x the budget of some teams that year. They had half a team of the over the hill, often injured hall of famers that were just not getting it done lol.

Back then you could just spend without consequence if ownership gave you the green light. Now we are in the cap era. One bad contract is enough to push you close to a mandatory rebuild.
