Ive been looking into this for a few months cuz i want a dog soon too. A lot of dogs actually feel safer inside the cage when you're gone. It becomes a problem when you use the crate for anything related to punishment, like some people lock the dog up when it's bad. Then whenever you leave for work the dog thinks it's a punishment.
They'll do fine in a crate. A few things you can do to help would be to leave the tv/radio on, ask a neighbor to spend a few minutes with it, or right when you come to the door and open the crate, give it tons of affection and a treat. That sometimes even makes the crate a good thing because they know if they're in there, you're coming back for them.
Oh yeah that's another thing with my cousin's husky. It sat and watched TV all day while in the cage, they would throw on animal planet for her.
Smartest dog I have ever seen lol, I was playing xbox, and instead of walking through the remote cords like all other dogs, this dog stopped, look at the cord, and stepped over it 1 paw at a time lol. It would actually sit on the couch and watch hockey with us too
