There's actually no debate as to whether there was a dude named Jesus who had a following of some sort in Israel around 30 BCE, and that he was later killed around 33-35 by the Romans by crucifixion. He's listed in both Roman and Jewish histories at the time, although often very briefly, and alongside other politics/religious leaders of the time in lists of trouble makers executed by the Romans.

Even atheist historians/anthropologists agree that a historical Jesus existed. The evidence is overwhelming (he's mentioned by Roman historians and Roman documents from the time period).
