[Wyshynski] From an NHL team exec this morning, FWIW: "NHL is season is starting Jan 13th. Confirmed last night. We are going to be playing 56 games."

So it's confirmed!

Pretty shitty for the taxi squad, so apparently each team can have up to 28 players or something. Just in case there is injuries/covid to the team etc.

Which means if you're developing in the AHL, it's unlikely you will be called up cuz of 2 week quarantine rule etc. Like Canucks farm team is in Utica. So they'll have 5 guys with the team as the taxi squad, but I also heard that these guys may not be able to hang around with the 23 player team & practice with them cuz if they get covid, shit will go down. So they have to stay separated.

So.. Your teams best prospects that are likely to be called up to your NHL team will be just chillin on standby... Separated from main team and also not developing in AHL. that's like being in a bubble inside a bubble lol.

I wonder if they will just have these guys practice/scrim against other teams taxi squad to keep their sanity

If your team is smart it won’t be top prospects in the taxi squad

But if u got scrubs in ur taxi squad and someone gets hurt, u might as well play 1 person short than have a pylon out there costing goalz

That is a really screwed up situation..... I agree with you.

The guys in the taxi squad seem like sacrificial lambs under these guidelines.

A huge hit to player development, potential risk of mental health problems. I don't see much good of being a part of that squad.

I would just put 5 plugs on the taxi squad and let the top prospects actually get playing time if I know the team has no shot of making noise in the playoffs.

even if u got a shot its probably worth signing some decent cheap 1 year depth guys just to fill out the bonus slots the roster
but then again who knows how good the ahl goes it could get cancelled 10 games in or something they can get covid ect ect and maybe having a top prospect there is a better choice

I actually don't know much about the AHL'S plans.

Wondering if it is even financially viable for them to play?

Alexander Steen has officially retired due to a back injury, 15 years 1000+ games. Nice career!
