What you say is logical. That does not comfort me though. I still think Jimbo is going to sign someone on the back end to a crippling long term deal that will screw things up for years.

That offer sheet suggestion on Cernak is sounding pretty good right now.

Yeah as long as he doesn't do that, I'll be happy. I don't think he has the cap to do it anyway. The only player I wouldn't mind is pietrangelo, but yeah, impossible unless he's a wizard.

Which is it?

Benning signing emotionally attached players over term & price? Or letting them go elsewhere to get paid. As long as Benning doesn't go out there and sign more anchor contracts, I see it as a win.
I think Benning is srs about giving juolevi and chatfield a shot in the NHL, next season would be the perfect time to see what they got. Even though the Canucks desperately need a huge change in the backend, they don't have the cap to do it anyway this season. This shows me Benning is learning from his past mistakes, and he knows the window is when the anchor contracts are up (2 to 3yrs) he's trying to set up so there's no declining players locked up. Flames window is now, so it makes sense to go all in, think about it.. Markstrom and tanev locked up 10.5m avv for the next 4 years lololol

I guess we need to pray Rathbone and juolevi deliver hahaha

well, problem is that we *really* have no one else to make up the void in the blueline right now without a big trade involving the 2021 1st rounder or a big UFA signing. None of the up and comers project very well, we'd be lucky for two of Juolevi/Rafferty/Rathbone/Chatfield to even become regulars at some point in the future, let alone Top 4 D-men. and honestly it's a joke that some in the media are penciling in Chatfield, the guy showed some hope like three seasons ago and now he hasn't scored a goal or put together more than 10 points in the AHL the last two years. not even Melnyk would be OK with having this guy on the lineup.

The cap situation will be even worse next season so if Benning stays "disciplined" and lets the blueline rot it'll be two seasons down the drain and no solution thereafter, and he *always* tries to make bold UFA moves. And since the core just starting competing, would the players even be OK with essentially throwing the next two seasons to get through a management-induced cap crunch, as if the plan were to get lottery picks? Which is why the Barrie thing is probably happening.

/e sorry Secksii, prepare to be bitterly disappointed:

The Canucks have had more talks with Tyson Barrie’s camp tonight. More to come tomorrow morning I think.

Chatfield was basically tanev lite, and his replacement in the future. I don't expect him to put up points, rather be defensively reliable.

Oh Geez idk about Barrie. He's a great player and he would tremdously help in greens system, not having to just rely on Hughes. He's only 29, if Benning can somehow manage 6x4/5yrs ill be fine with it. He struggled with the leafs but he was still good. Just risky to rely on your prospects to be defensively reliable.
Hughes and Myers had the best performance together last season, but green had to split them up so there's some balance. If Barrie comes over, it'd be an easy top 4 choice with Hughes - Myers and Edler - Barrie

^ Interesting, I expected Barrie to be an advanced stats trainwreck but seems like his raw scoring makes up for his adventurous play. Within the context of our team though, he'd mostly bring what Hughes already does... and we'd have no one who can reliably defend in the Top 4. Though I guess with Tanev gone that's a given already.

well, let's hope Benning doesn't fuck it up. you know how I feel about the odds, though.

#NHLBruins sign F Craig Smith to a three-year contract with a $3.1M AAV

How is this guy? Numbers aren't impressive lol
3m is a middle of the pack contract so I'm guessing he'll fight for 2nd line RW with Kase, if not he's RW3

Tyson Barrie turned down more money elsewhere to join the #Oilers, including a $6 million offer.

Great fit with klefbom out

Gonna guess that 6m offer was from the Canucks, I don't see sakic offering 6m to bring him back

Thank you Oilers from saving us from ourselves.

Seems like Barrie wants to pad his stats then get a big payday LoL
