Until things completely broke down I don't even think any teams had any expectation of him hitting open market; it was just assumed he would resign because he played there his entire career and made it clear he wanted to stay.
Not trying to hate on Krug but that is a pretty big downgrade. If they did not disrespect him they could have gotten a hometown discount.
Now he is going to make far more on the open market.
